Latch Hook Portrait: 2 Session Workshop
MAY 3RD AND MAY 17TH - Turn photos into fiber art with Lindy Russell-Heymann!
Class Description
Saturday May 3rd and Saturday May 17th 1-3 pm Discover the art of latch hook portraiture in this two-session workshop! In the first session, you'll learn the basics of latch hooking on small practice grids before diving into digital photo editing. Bring a photo of your choice on your laptop, and we'll use online software to transform it into a gridded latch hook pattern, which you'll send to the instructor for preparation. In the second session, we'll assemble your multi-page pattern into a single guide and begin the process of translating your image into yarn. You'll get hands-on experience following your custom pattern, setting a strong foundation to complete your portrait at home. Whether you're new to latch hooking or looking for a fresh creative challenge, this class will equip you with the skills to turn photos into fiber art! Lindy Russell-Heymann (she/her) has taught elementary and middle school Art in public, private, and charter schools in DC and Maryland for the past 23 years. She has a BFA in Costume Design from DePaul University and an MA in Art Education from Ohio State. She loves to teach and work with various materials, mediums, and techniques such as drawing, painting, gel printmaking, fiber arts, and stained and fused glass. As her degrees and art-making practice may suggest, Lindy approaches art-making like going to a buffet, except the buffet is all dessert. Variety is truly the spice of life! She also makes herbal medicines because she took a class on herbalism, and she knits like a maniac. She loves origami but is notoriously bad at wrapping presents. Her goal this year is to create art only using what already exists in her considerable yarn, glass, paint, printmaking, drawing, and fabric stashes. Maybe not at the same time.
