About the event
A lifelong enthusiast of all things musical, Chris firmly believes in the transformative power of
music to uplift, unite, and enhance our lives.
Over the past 40 years, Chris has amassed an incredible wealth of experience. Some of the
highlights include playing piano since the age of 5 and trumpet since the age of 8, achieving 2nd
chair in the DHS marching band all four years, performing as a soloist in the Jazz Ensemble and
Pit Orchestra for both DHS and the Damascus Theater Company and participating in the
Montgomery County Honors Brass Ensemble. He also served as the youth conductor for
Damascus First Baptist Church and Damascus High’s music program, and was a founding
member of both his church’s and high school’s brass ensembles. While in college, Chris was
featured as a pivotal vocalist and tenor soloist in several Montgomery College choral
productions.
Since then, Chris has toured the U.S., Jamaica, Australia, and India with Pebble to Pearl, The
Fishermen Band, Mindy Miller, The Pocket Band, Ronnie Davis of The Itals, Shane Gamble, The Andy Westcott Band, 5 O’clock Somewhere (the Jimmy Buffett Tribute), and Grammy-nominated producer BT. He has also recorded and produced music for and with countless artists over the years.
Currently, Chris plays, writes, teaches, and produces music full-time, based in his hometown of
Damascus, MD. Other notable accomplishments include winning 2nd place in a regional
singing/songwriting competition and recording multiple times at prestigious locations like George
Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch Studios in California and Sausalito’s former Record Plant.
Chris also performs at weddings and private events. You can keep up with his latest projects
and performances by visiting his website at chriscomptonmusic.com. Be sure to sign up for his quarterly newsletter to be the first to hear about upcoming events!
“I was treated to a stunningly flexible voice, intelligent songwriting, penetrating wit and masterful
multi-instrumentalism. There are a LOT of Singer-Songwriters out there, but there’s something
incredibly unique about Chris’ combination of pop sensibility, respect for traditional form, and
understated grace that’s almost never seen on our local music scene.” - Rob Hinkal,
FocusMusic Executive Director / Institute of Musical Traditions Technical Director
