A series of free outdoor performances for children ages 2 to 10 - fun for the whole family! This date features bilingual storyteller and musician, Melissa Foss!

About the event

Explore a bilingual and magical musical adventure where songs, stories, and imagination guide us on a joyful quest of discovery!


Parking: Parking for Riverworks' outdoor events is available just one block away in the lots at the Poolesville Baptist Church and St. Peter's Episcopal Church, thanks to their generosity.


Seating: We have folding chairs available for seating or feel free to bring your own chairs or blankets.


Food and Beverage: We have snacks and beverages available for purchase or feel free to bring your own picnic.

 

Inclement Weather. Our backup rain location will be Poolesville Memorial Methodist Church . Stay tuned for announcements!


About: In collaboration with Story Tapestries, Riverworks Art Center invites you to a free children's performance with Melissa Foss on August 13th, from 10-11am on Riverworks Outdoor Stage - 17617 W Willard Rd. in Poolesville. These performances are for children ages 2 to 10 years old, but are fun for the whole family!


The Ongoing Series: Join us every Thursday from 10-11am from June 25 through August 20 for the Playful Performances Summer Series, featuring professional artists, interactive family experiences, and plenty of opportunities to sing, move, laugh, learn, and create together. Each week brings a new performer and adventure, from storytelling and music to dance, culture, and hands-on participation.


A portion of Riverworks Playful Performance series was made possible by the Maryland State Arts Council.


Story Tapestries:

An accomplished organization in its 16th year in 2026, Story Tapestries has impacted more than 5 million lives through their work.  Story Tapestries custom designs culturally responsive, inclusive programs and products in collaboration with communities. The team is trained to work with all ages and abilities. We support access to workforce development, mental health, quality childcare, strong literacy, numeracy, SEL, STEM programs, and digital training. 


Performer: 

Melissa Foss is a bilingual musician, storyteller, instrument maker, and teaching artist who creates interactive performances that blend music, storytelling, and cultural traditions. Through original songs, audience participation, and imaginative adventures, Melissa invites children and families to explore language, creativity, and the joy of making music together. Her work has been presented at the National Gallery of Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, libraries, schools, and community organizations throughout the region.
