About the event
Tornado Rose delivers an uplifting blend of Americana, bluegrass, country and folk with
gorgeous vocals and high-flying strings.
Lead singer and songwriter Brooke Bell’s voice shines with an enchanting power and clarity.
Brooke is a multi-instrumentalist on the guitar, autoharp and fiddle and her exceptional vocal
abilities compliment her songwriting, which often reflects her experience growing up in the
small town of Independence, Kansas.
Tornado Rose released the Cast Iron Cure EP in October 2025 to critical acclaim. Recorded with
Dewey Boyd at Forty-One Fifteen studio in Nashville, TN the tracks “Rabbit in the Pine,” “Down
Fall River,” “Jazz June,” and “Fryin’ Pan” feature performances from standout musicians
including IBMA fiddle player of the year Maddie Denton and Lucas White on guitar.
Lee Zimmerman with Bluegrass Today writes, “The Cast Iron Cure EP is both awesome and
inspiring. The immediacy and engagement of Rabbit in the Pine and Fryin’ Pan sandwich the
set, while the ominous overtones given Down Fall River and the emotive Jazz June add weight
and resolve to the proceedings overall. Clearly, anticipation has already begun. Tornado Rose is
only now beginning to bloom.”
Tornado Rose is Brooke Bell on vocals, guitar, autoharp and fiddle. Ryan Davidson on mandolin.
Kyle Jacobs on banjo. Josh Bell on double bass.
Steeped in the rich traditions of the Kansas plains, the captivating Tornado Rose has set their
sights eastward to the Washington, DC metro area, embarking on a heartfelt journey of musical
exploration that weaves the soulful sounds of Appalachia into their ever-evolving tapestry.
Every member, fueled by years of unwavering dedication and fervent passion, contributes their
unique essence to this beautifully harmonious gathering of kindred spirits united in their love
for music.
Tornado Rose was born on May 21, 2011 – the fateful end date of the Mayan calendar – when
the band survived a massive EF5 tornado in a campground bathroom while camped at Pomona
Lake, KS. A fierce storm descended unexpectedly compelling the band to seek refuge. As they
survived the tumultuous night and witnessed the dawn’s early light, they emerged with a
profound respect for life and a newfound sound. And it was Brooke Bell who blossomed as the
rose that emerged from that chaotic tornado.
