Made-in-Studio: Wood Burning
Make your own ornaments!
Class Description
Friday December 5th, 1-4pm Wood burning, also known as pyrography, is an art that has its roots in ancient civilization. Pyrography is a term which means ‘writing with fire,’ and across every culture all over the world, humans have employed pyrography for both functional and decorative uses. Today, we have access to wood burning tools that allow us to practice pyrography without sticking our hands in the flames. In this exploration in wood burning, we’ll be creating ornaments for the house, the tree, or wherever else you might like to keep them! Wood burning is a lot like drawing, and we will be using different techniques in order to bring our designs to life. You will have the opportunity to copy a stenciled design, or create something entirely new. While this Made-in-Studio is open to all skill levels, participants should be ages 16 and above. Riverworks Programming Assistant Lennon Gross is a multi-disciplinary artist with years of woodworking experience. They’ll be leading this studio session; walking participants through wood burning techniques and safety instructions. Participants should wear sturdy pants and close-toed shoes. Avoid any dangling jewelry, and be prepared to remove rings and bracelets
